TEAM FAMILY TROJANS

Congratulations, Qualifiers!

Great effort yesterday!  Once again we overachieved. All last week we talked about racing, taking care of one another and finishing hard.  I saw plenty of those things yesterday.  I was again impressed by the character of this team.  Well done.

The boys entered the meet ranked 6th, 59 points behind 5th ranked Wyandotte.  Despite the predictions, our boys set goal to qualify for the state meet.  In order to do so, we needed to beat Wyandotte, Wayne, and Bedford.

We ended up in front of Wayne and Wyandotte, but behind Bedford by 29 points.  The boys moved up well throughout the race, but Bedford created a gap early that we were unable to close completely.  Still I was very proud of the effort.  Each of our veterans ran considerably faster than last year.

In the girls varsity race, I saw more of the same.  Most of our girls ran gritty & gutty races.

So many of runners ran great races that were not accurately represented by the times to which they were connected.  I'm looking forward to Wednesday when those efforts will lead to PRs!!!

State Finals Parking - Fundraiser / Parent Volunteers

Update - 10/27/16

Thanks again to those of you who have volunteered.

I once had an MHSXC parent chastise me regarding my incessant requests for volunteers.  This parent suggested that I didn't understand the meaning of the term "volunteer" and that I attempted to guilt trip parents into helping.

Although that's certainly never my intention, we need more volunteers.  I don't like to ask over and again, but at this point it is necessary to do so.

I'm getting a bit nervous as we're only 9 days away from the state finals and we still need 7 volunteers.  After 16 years of providing volunteers and earning a profit for MHSXC, I would hate to lose the opportunity.

If you can't volunteer or are just not interested in doing so, we understand, but if you can and haven't yet signed up, please do as soon as possible.

Thanks again,
Mark

Hello parents,

If you have not yet, please consider volunteering.

Thanks again for all of your help this season.

While enjoying the team's success this season, we can't ignore our awesome support system; our amazing family.

Camp, pasta dinners, Bork Classic, course set up, meet management, concessions stand, picnics, pasta dinners, cheer-leading - you are so appreciated!!!

Help needed -

State Finals

As mentioned before, we are one of the host schools for the MHSAA State Finals at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday, November 5.

As one of the host schools for the MHSAA State Cross Country Finals, my responsibilities include measuring and lining the course, and providing 22 adults to direct traffic and check parking credentials at MIS on race day.  For our efforts, the team receives approximately $1500.

With big breakthroughs at the Regional, we could still qualify the boys team to the State Finals, If we do, or when we qualify individuals, we are scheduled to run at 2:00 PM and the girls at 3:00 PM.  By 2:00, most of our volunteers will be able to leave their posts to watch our athletes compete.

2:00 PM Division 1 Boys Race
2:30 PM Division 2 Girls Race
3:00 PM Division 1 Girls Race
3:45 PM Divisions 1 & 2 Awards
  • MHSXC responsibilities:
    • Coach Scoles & Coach Bork:
    • Attend a meeting at MIS in September and another in November.
    • Organize all signs.
    • Set up course - Sunday after Bork Classic, measure and paint course boundaries, Sunday after Regional, measure again, paint race line, and set up mile marker signs.
    • Draw box assignments
  • MHSXC family responsibilities
    • Day of State Finals - check parking credential and direct traffic.

MHSXC 2016 - Week 11

Updated @ 6:30 PM
Weekly schedule - Pictures on Tuesday
Voluntary practice on Wednesday
Post a PR meet on (next) Wednesday, 11/2

Yesterday was fantastic.  The weather was great.  The enthusiasm was wonderful.  The support, second to none.

After a deliberation, I'm pleased we decided to have everyone race and happy with the outcome.  The top 7 boys had a plan to run together through the first mile and, for the most part, stuck to it.  Nick Manor was spiked in the first mile and did a great job catching back up, finishing with another PR.  Matt, Grant, Chad and Jake Maas came through the mile between 20th and 25th and moved all the way up to 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 11th respectively.  The boys won the meet and all 7 of our varsity athletes medalled!

2016 Airport Invitational Champions

KC Thornton ran a similar workout / race.  She moved up well the whole race and finished 7th overall.  Cheyenne Bolton also medalled.

German exchange student, Luisa Jung continued to improve.  This time she dropped a whopping 1:34 from her PR.  Alysa Clouse ran her 2nd fastest time ever and Bolton continued to improve after recovering from an appendectomy.

Seven boys PR'd.  Nick Wohlfeil showed the greatest improvement with his 1:10 PR.

I'm very excited for Saturday's Regional Championship.  It looks like the weather will cooperate. Please think about a goal for Saturday.

Wednesday, 10/26/16 - Team Pictures
I'll send home envelopes today.

I'm working on busing for one more meet.  We have many athletes who are continuing to improve and with yesterday's rain and last Saturday's heat / wind missed opportunities to PR.  This meet will be an opportunity to  run a very fast course at the end of our taper.

We skipped the Coaching Legends meet and missed the opportunity to run the Huron Meadows course.  Now, we get a 2nd chance.  Details to follow.

weather

Thank you all so much for you contributions to the 2016 Dave Bork Classic and Sean Brady Memorial.

The Sean Brady event was a huge success.  Here's a link to an awesome Facebook Photo Album

A very special thanks to Don Hirst and his tireless efforts to improve the course!!!

I was proud of the efforts on Saturday. Sadly the high temperatures and wind kept times a bit slow in the afternoon.  Still, most of you realized yesterday was about racing and you performed admirably.

Special Congratulations:
KC Thornton - Freshman / Sophomore Champion
Matthew Parran - Junior Champion
