Coaching Legend's Recap

Dave Bork was one of this year's "legends" at the Coaching Legends Invitational in Brighton.  Along with Grand Ledge's Kim Spalsbury, Coach Bork's face appeared on the medals and he was celebrated at each awards ceremony.  The meet announcer read from a lengthy list of accomplishments before coach helped distribute awards.  We celebrate his accomplishments each year at the Dave Bork Classic, but having teams and coaches from all over the state recognize his career was awesome.

We ran well, with both teams finishing midpack and with 26 of our athletes bringing home medals.

The boys finished 6th out of 11 teams.  To lead the way, Anthony Wohlfeil ( 16:40) and Noah Dawn (16:47) finished 9th and 10th respectively  Mitchell Dumoulin (18:27), Garrett Moore (19:30), Logan Harvell (19:40) and Neil Antrassian (20:00) ran well, finishing with personal record performances.

The girls were 7th out of 12 teams.  Elisabeth Laprad (20:18) was our top finisher, placing 13th.  Lydia Malik (20:55) ran well, finishing 20th.  Natalie Mass( 21:59), Madyson Farris (23:24), Allison Rathbun (23:25) ran PRs.

East Lansing - Forrest Akers Golf Course

Although both teams finished near the middle of the pack, Saturday was a huge success.   The Spartan Invitational brought 22 personal records and 15 season bests.

The girls finished 22nd out of 37 teams.  Elisabeth LaPrad continued to shine.  Her PR time of 19:16 placed her 14th out of 257 runners.  Fellow freshman, Lydia Malik ran her first 5k in an impressive 20:54.  Sidney Towalski (21:42), Autumn Green (21:55), Sloane Lynch (22:03), Aliyah Scott, and Madyson Farris also ran well.  It was great having Sloane and Lydia in the varsity lineup.

In the JV race, Kasey Mclaughlin, Cheyenne Bolton and Kelliann Smith had huge breakthroughs, while Allison Rathbun and Morgan Mydloski had awesome debuts.

The boys placed 16th out of 38 teams.  Anthony Wohlfeil was our lone medalist, running his second PR of the week (16:42) to place 20th out of 269 runners.  Noah Dawn (17:00), Zach Jenkins (17:57), Matthew Parran (18:01) Mitchell Dumoulin (18:40), Cameron Bitzer, and Garrett Moore also ran well.

Check out the impressive improvements below.
MHS Improvement - Boys

Thanks to those of you who made the trip to East Lansing.  It was fantastic having so many parents and supporters so far from home.  Everything was awesome: weather, support, racing, picnic, and pretty much the whole day.

  • Team Time

    • We need to do a better job of respecting "team time".  We want to continue to foster a family atmosphere and we love the support that friends and family bring, but at meets we need to focus on warming up, racing and cooling down with the team.

  • Support
    • Except when necessary and approved to leave due to another school function, the expectation is that all athletes stay until the end of the meet.  Please plan accordingly.  There's nothing more powerful than hearing one's name during a race.  The more support, the better.  If you're not warming up or cooling down, you should be out of the tent and cheering on your teammates.

Lake Erie Metro Park:

We had a good day at the Warrior Classic.

The boys’ team brought home its second trophy of the week, finishing runner up to Wayne Memorial.

It was a day of continued improvement.  Most of our veteran runners ran considerably faster than they did at last season's Warrior Classic.

Anthony Wohlfeil (17:18), Noah Dawn (17:23) and Matthew Parran (18:19) all medaled, finishing 4th, 5th and 19th respectively.  Zac Jenkins and Mitchell Dumoulin completed the scoring for us, finishing 32nd and 37th respectively.  Cameron Bitzer, Curtis Jewell and Grant Prater and Logan Harvell also ran well.

The girls finished 7th out of 17 teams.  Ellisabeth Laprad (19:56) led the way, finishing 4th.  Autumn Green (PR 22:39), Sidney Towalski, Aliyah Scott and Kacy Mclaughlin rounded out the top 5.   Madyson Farris, Jessica Conrad, Keliann Smith and Cheyenne Bolton all ran well in the varsity race.

Check out the link below for comparisons to last year.  Very cool!!!  .
